In a new achievement, under the patronage of Prof. Gehan Fekry, President of Sinai University, the Faculty of Information Technology and Computer Science – Sinai University -Kantara, achieved remarkable excellence in the Smart Education Hackathon under the slogan “Artificial Intelligence Applications: Egypt’s Digital Future”, which was organized by Benha University in cooperation with the Innovators Support Fund “ISF” and the Information Technology Institute (ITI) affiliated to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

The hackathon included 7 tracks: Track 1: Distance Learning, Track 2: Interactivity in Education, Track 3: Flexible Learning Tools, Track 4: Language Learning Services, Track 5: Transforming Learning into a Game, Track 6: Trainer Support Systems, Track 7: Learning Data Analysis.

200 teams from all Egyptian universities participated in the hackathon, and our team “Cogneix Team” from the Faculty of Information Technology won the first prize (20,000 Egyptian pounds) in the sixth track. Our team consisted of 6 students in the fourth year: Mahmoud Mansour, Mohamed Gebaly, Menna Allah Ghanem, Fatima Khaled, Habeeba Mahmoud and Shahd Ayman.

The project’s idea is based on creating an AI-based Dyslexia Teaching Assistant system that simplifies diagnosis and supports personalized learning using machine learning, speech analysis, and advanced educational tools to treat dyslexia. Dyslexia affects 10% of the population and affects about 700 million people worldwide and represents about 80% of learning disabilities leading to learning difficulty although it is not related to intelligence.

The developed system provides tests, text-to-speech conversion, and interactive learning with games to help students, and also helps teachers monitor students’ progress and improve teaching strategies through a website prepared for this purpose.
