Participation of Sinai University – Arish Branch Pharmacy Students in the Conference Held at New Ismailia National University

Under the generous patronage of Prof. Dr. Gehan Fekry, President of Sinai University, and Prof. Dr. Abdel Hamid Abdo, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs – Arish Branch, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Lotfy Diab, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Mostafa Hegazy, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Mohamed Shebl, the students Mohamed Gamiel and Shaimaa Ramadan participated in the scientific conference held at New Ismailia National University under the title “The Role of Universities in Sustainable and Community Development” on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

The students presented a poster on one of the medicinal plants found in Sinai, titled “Phytochemical and Biological Insights on Cleome droserifolia (Samwah) growing in Sinai” The poster presented a comprehensive study on Cleome droserifolia, commonly known as “Samwah,” which is considered one of the important medicinal plants widespread in the Sinai environment. The study included:

Chemical analysis of the plant and extraction of its active compounds.

Biological evaluation of potential activities such as antioxidant and antibacterial effects.

Highlighting the importance of this plant in traditional medicine and its potential role in sustainable pharmaceutical development.

Emphasizing the link between local environmental resources and community development through scientific research.

The poster was displayed as part of the conference activities, receiving praise from attending professors, students, and researchers. It was discussed by several faculty members from different universities, who the research’s importance and its connection to environmental and community development in Sinai.

This participation reflects the commitment of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Sinai University – Arish Branch to engaging in developmental and environmental issues and encouraging students to pursue scientific research that addresses local community needs, thereby highlighting the university’s role in achieving sustainable development goals.
